Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you may want to know before applying. You can find more questions on our FAQ Page.
Is the Advanced / Pre-Professional Program right for me?
The program is designed for advanced, pre-professional, and professional dancers with a strong classical foundation who are ready to be challenged in an intensive, focused, and supportive training environment.
We welcome vocational and conservatory students, advanced dancers training at private schools, recent graduates, and professional dancers.
Do I need to audition?
Admission to the Advanced / Pre-Professional Program is selective, allowing us to create groups in which dancers are well matched in level, experience, and artistic readiness.
Advanced and pre-professional dancers are invited to submit a digital audition. Applying is intentionally straightforward, and existing ballet footage can be used.
Professional dancers and graduates may be considered for admission based on their professional experience and CV, without submitting a new audition video. Returning Advanced participants may also be eligible for admission without a new audition.
Full requirements and application information can be found on our dedicated Auditions page.
What does a typical training day look like?
Training days are full, varied, and thoughtfully designed to develop the complete dancer. Daily training includes classical ballet technique, including pointe work and men's technique, alongside classical variations, contemporary technique, contemporary repertoire, and rehearsals.
Throughout the intensive, dancers can also experience Flamenco masterclasses, dancer well-being masterclasses, artistic coaching, and special sessions, with live music accompanying selected classes.
Each week brings a different team of distinguished faculty members who work closely with dancers throughout the week. This continuity allows dancers to build meaningful connections with their teachers, explore each artistic approach in greater depth, and develop a deeper understanding of the techniques and repertoire being taught.
Every class is thoughtfully connected, with each discipline complementing and enriching the others to create a cohesive and immersive training experience.
Wednesdays follow a lighter rhythm, creating intentional space for recovery, personal development, and individual attention. These days may include professional dance photoshoots, dancer well-being masterclasses, complimentary on-site physiotherapy, health and mindset coaching, visits from Dance Artist Shop, and other special experiences.
At the end of each training day, pre-booked private coaching sessions take place, offering dancers dedicated one-on-one time with faculty members for personalized guidance, technical refinement, and artistic development.
The schedule evolves across the two weeks, offering dancers the opportunity to experience different artistic perspectives while maintaining the consistency, depth, and individual attention that define the ArtéBallét experience.
Should I join for one week or the full two weeks?
Both offer a complete ArtéBallét training experience. Studio Week is designed for dancers seeking one intensive week of high-level training, while the full two-week experience allows more time to develop, receive coaching, and become immersed in the artistic process.
Signature and Arté Premier continue into the second week with further repertoire, rehearsals, and performance opportunities. Two-week dancers may also submit their own classical variation or solo for coaching and potential performance in the final theater presentation.
Will I be dancing en pointe?
Yes. Pointe work forms part of the Advanced / Pre-Professional experience for dancers who are sufficiently trained and prepared. Pointe may be incorporated into ballet technique, classical variations, and repertoire, depending on the class, choreography, and individual dancer.
Faculty always retain discretion to adapt pointe work where appropriate for a dancer's safety and training needs.
Will I have the opportunity to perform?
Yes. Dancers joining the full two-week experience work toward our final theater presentation in Amsterdam.
Two-week participants may also submit a classical variation or solo for coaching and potential performance, giving dancers the opportunity to bring individual work into the ArtéBallét experience.
Solo and variation performances are subject to artistic selection and programming.
Can I be scouted or receive opportunities during the intensive?
Yes. ArtéBallét is designed not only as a place to train, but also as a place to be seen and discovered.
Scouts may attend the intensive, and our international partners may offer scholarships, direct entries, invitations, and other training, educational, or performance opportunities.
Throughout the program, dancers work closely with international choreographers, artistic directors, professional dancers, and other industry professionals who may identify dancers for opportunities within their own organizations, programs, and professional networks.
Dancers may also be selected for future ArtéBallét programs, scholarships, special projects, performance opportunities, direct admission to selected ArtéBallét programs, and direct entry to the ArtéBallét Competition.
Opportunities are based on artistic selection and individual suitability and are never guaranteed. Simply come ready to train, grow, and be seen.
How much individual attention will I receive?
A personal approach is central to ArtéBallét. Groups are intentionally limited so faculty can work with dancers in greater detail and get to know them as individual artists throughout the intensive.
Dancers seeking additional one-on-one guidance can further personalize their experience through private coaching and selected Arté Premier experiences.
What support is available during the intensive?
All participants have access to complimentary on-site physiotherapy support. Depending on the selected package, or as optional additions, dancers can also access private coaching, dancer-focused health and mindset coaching, and professional photoshoots.
Together with our lighter Wednesday rhythm and dancer well-being sessions, these elements are designed to support dancers beyond technique alone.
Can international dancers apply?
Absolutely. ArtéBallét welcomes dancers from around the world and brings together an international community in Amsterdam each summer.
International dancers are warmly encouraged to apply.
Do I need to arrange my own accommodation in Amsterdam?
Yes. Accommodation is not included, and participants arrange their own stay in Amsterdam.
We recommend securing accommodation early, particularly during the busy summer period.
What happens after I'm accepted?
You'll receive your acceptance and registration instructions by email. Your place is confirmed once the required registration and payment steps have been completed.
Because capacity within each level is intentionally limited, we recommend securing your place promptly after acceptance.
Are the Winter and Summer Intensives the same?
While both programs share the same commitment to exceptional training, artistic excellence, and individual attention, each offers a distinct experience.
The Winter Intensive is a focused four-day experience centered around classical technique, repertoire, and choreographic exploration, offering dancers the opportunity to work closely with distinguished faculty in an intimate training environment.
The Summer Intensive offers a broader, multidisciplinary experience across one or two weeks, bringing together classical ballet, contemporary dance, repertoire, rehearsals, dancer well-being, and opportunities for individual coaching and performance.
Both programs are designed to complement one another, offering different opportunities for artistic growth throughout the year.
