ArtéBallét Intensive is proud to present its 2025 Demonstration Performance: a carefully curated afternoon of classical heritage and contemporary creation, featuring dancers from both the Intermediate and Advanced/Pre-Professional divisions.
The classical repertoire includes excerpts from iconic ballets such as “La Sylphide” by August Bournonville, “Les Sylphides” by Michel Fokine, Giselle by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, and “La Fille Mal Gardée” as reimagined by Sir Frederick Ashton. These works have been rehearsed, mentored, and refined with exceptional attention to historical style and musical phrasing by highly sought-after ballet masters Martin Meng, Viktor Shcherbakov, and Dutch National Ballet company member Sebia Plantefève-Castryck.
The program also features celebrated contemporary choreography. Didy Veldman, one of Europe’s most sought-after choreographers whose works have been commissioned by The Royal Ballet, Rambert, Cullberg Ballet, and others, personally restaged her poetic creation “Is to Be”, originally made for the Prix de Lausanne. Her presence in the studio offered dancers an invaluable experience in sculptural clarity, theatrical sophistication, and artistic risk.
Dutch National Junior Company member Alexander Alvarez Sylvestre, a finalist of the Prix de Lausanne Choreographic Award, contributes a compelling creation grounded in rhythmic drive and expressive precision. His work challenges dancers to embody contemporary movement with both power and sensitivity.
Artistic Director Lorenzo Koppenaal presents an original solo en pointe, created earlier this year for guest performer Marie-Claire Kemper. This bespoke work explores themes of resilience, transformation, and quiet strength, brought to life through Marie-Claire’s commanding artistry.
The performance concludes with two vibrant jazz works by international choreographers Uri Eugenio and Myron van Eijk, offering a contemporary counterpoint rich in rhythm, theatricality, and musical nuance.
This performance is not a spectacle, but a demonstration: a celebration of lineage and innovation, of process and performance, and of what becomes possible when mentorship and excellence meet emerging talent.
